Remodel: Midst

These are from last week, after the demo and the plumbing/electrical work was mostly done.

A reminder of the before

And after!
Now, a quick word about The Wall.  There was so much back and forth and miscommunication over it, it's really deserving of its own post.  First, we discussed what's pictured here - busting out the entire wall.  After some further thought, I decided we should retain some of the wall so that the room would be easier to furnish, and also so that you don't see 100% of the house the second you walk in the door.  Keeping the left part of the wall up would create a distinction between the living/kitchen and the bedrooms/bathroom.  There is plenty of space in the living room, but limited wall space, if that makes sense.  Anyway, I called the contractor to meet us over there before they'd started so I could fill him in on our new decision regarding the wall.  It was very apparent that he didn't share my opinion.  A few days later, after they'd started, this is what I walk in to see.  I called the contractor, who told me he did not recall our previous conversation.  Like, at all.  I don't buy it.  I think he thought he knew better, and that I'd like it this way once I saw it.  I told him I'd like him to re-frame part of the wall; he re-framed the wrong part (the right side next to the pass-through).  I gave up.  I still think we're going to miss having a part of the wall there, but if it drives me crazy we can frame it up later.

More pictures, less drama.

Cut out for dishwasher
An update since this was taken: a dishwasher won't fit under our countertops, because the genius who built the kitchen used bathroom cabinets.  They had to demo the whole countertop, built a frame under it to raise the height, and we're in the process of picking out new tile.  I'm sad to lose the original tile, but what can you do.

Old laundry space converted to pantry
New laundry hookups in mudroom
Like I said, more has been done since we took these.  We've predictably had to push back our move date because they won't be done by tomorrow.  Our new floor has been installed, and today is being sanded and stained.  Paint has gone up.  Really all that's left is the random finishing things (like outlet covers), the floor staining, and the new tile counters.

I'm not currently stressed about it, but I still want it done.  I want to write the checks and forget I ever wrote them.

  1. To remodel your kitchen countertops, and would rather just focus on a certain component of it, such as your worktops or floor. Or you could go for redecorating the kitchen and see how this looks. I don know that you simply will ever have the ability to avoid this completely, but in the event you create an region for tools it'll help an incredible deal.
